My Top 3

I’m going to take a short break from my Vegas series to give some very important advice that was recently very relevant to me.

I’m going to Vegas (not a complete break, I suppose!) in June for a friend’s 30th birthday. Flights from my regular airport in Eugene were too expensive, so I made the decision to drive up to Portland in order to save about $120. Portland’s not too inconvenient for me (about two hours on the Interstate), but with gas prices, the value of my time, etc it usually “costs” about $60.

I had lost access to my confirmation email, so I called USAir reservations this morning to have them re-send my confirmation. I found out that my flights had been changed (to less preferable times, no less) and I decided to try a trick I’ve found to work in the past, and what I advise you to try when your itinerary gets changed:

I’ve done this before with flight times, but had never tried it with airports. But it worked! I just changed my $160 ticket from Portland to Vegas to a $285 ticket from Eugene to Vegas, and now I save the $60 cost of driving to Portland. For those of you with calculators, that’s a savings of $185.

I think it’s gonna be a good day….
